glaive
Buoyed by the hyperpop wave that emerged online in the early 2020s, glaive has been developing from North Carolina a project focused on fast, melodic, and fragmented electronic pop, drawing on emo, rap, and bedroom-pop influences. Born Ash Gutierrez in 2005, glaive began posting tracks on SoundCloud during the lockdowns, creating within a scene closely tied to digicore online communities, before gradually shaping a career as a singer and songwriter. Early releases, including the 2020 EP "cypress grove," laid the groundwork for a style built on processed vocals, instant hooks, and lyrics about adolescence, loneliness, and social relationships. In 2021, glaive refined this approach on "all dogs go to heaven" and on the collaborative project "then i’ll be happy" with ericdoa, then followed with "old dog, new tricks" and the EP "minnesota is a place that exists" in 2022. His debut album, "i care so much that i dont care at all," released in 2023, extends this aesthetic straddling alternative pop and electronic music, while marking glaive’s move from virtual stages to club and venue tours.
