The Bootleg Beatles
Formed in London in 1980 in the wake of the stage production Beatlemania, The Bootleg Beatles extend the Beatles' repertoire on stage with an approach based on recreating their distinct eras. Made up of four musicians and marked by several lineup changes over the decades, the British outfit presents a programme that spans the early rock'n'roll and beat-pop, then the more psychedelic, acoustic and orchestrated songs of the late 1960s. The Bootleg Beatles initially emerged on the British theatrical circuit before establishing themselves in concert halls, at festivals and on international tours. Their work rests as much on vocal harmonies as on faithful reproduction of arrangements and the original group's aesthetic evolutions — from the early black suits to the worlds of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. Since the 1980s, The Bootleg Beatles have occupied a space between pop concert, repertoire show and stage reinterpretation of the history of the Beatles.
