Balancing luminous pop with deliberate nods to the 1980s, Blanks builds a world driven by direct melodies and songwriting focused on everyday emotions. Behind the project is Dutch musician Simon de Wit from Groningen, who began to gain recognition in the mid-2010s through his YouTube channel Music by Blanks, where he experimented with rearranged covers, mashups and fast composition formats in interaction with his audience. From that online foundation, Blanks gradually turned to his own songs in an indie pop/bedroom pop vein marked by synths, clean guitars and chorus-like refrains. The release of the album Nothing Lasts Forever And That’s OK in 2021 was a milestone for Blanks, compiling more personal tracks about nostalgia, friendship and the transitions of adulthood. Since then, Blanks has continued to alternate between singles, EPs and video content, consistently linking his studio productions to a live and digital presence centred on sharing his creative process.
