Pierre Hugues José

From Vesoul, Pierre Hugues José develops francophone rap centered on writing, at some distance from the genre’s most conventional formats. Trained early on the synthesizer, he later broadened his musical references, which can be heard in tracks where rap phrasing opens onto a freer tone, nourished by humour, satire and self‑mockery. His career is also marked by a period outside the musical field: a doctor in neuroscience, Pierre Hugues José devoted himself fully to music after that initial training. In his lyrics, a taste for sharp phrasing, rhyme and offbeat contrast sits alongside references to philosophy, with a way of sliding theoretical ideas into very everyday contexts. Spotted as part of the Inouïs at Printemps de Bourges 2022, Pierre Hugues José released the EP "Comment qu’c’est ?" in 2023, followed by "L’École des femmes", which extends this text‑based approach to rap and the contrast between apparent lightness and social observation. On stage as in recording, he belongs to a hip‑hop vein where identity is expressed primarily through language, rhythm and tone.
