Band Of Friends
Band Of Friends originated from a project started in 2012 by Northern Irish bassist Gerry McAvoy. Around Gallagher’s longtime associate gathered Scottish drummer Ted McKenna—who had also played in Rory Gallagher’s band—and Dutch guitarist Marcel Scherpenzeel. The international trio performs electric blues rock marked by boogie, hard blues and the legacy of the power trio, with a repertoire that mixes songs popularized alongside Rory Gallagher and original compositions. Band Of Friends initially grew on European stages through an intensive touring schedule, documented by the live album Live 'n' Kickin (2015), following the studio albums Too Much Is Not Enough (2013) and Repeat After Me (2016). The band’s history remains closely tied to Gerry McAvoy, who was Gallagher’s bassist from 1971 to 1991, and after Ted McKenna’s death in 2019 the group continued with Irish drummer Brendan O’Neill, maintaining its blues-rock foundation and the direct dynamic of the trio.
