Oli XL

Based in Stockholm, Oli XL has been developing since the mid-2010s electronic music that intersects experimental club music, ambient, digital collage, and fragmented songwriting. A producer, DJ, and visual artist, Oliver Sehlstedt released his first records at a very young age, then refined a language built from off-kilter rhythms, glossy textures, chopped samples, field recordings, and voices treated with restraint. After several EPs, including Stress Junkie in 2018, Oli XL broadened his audience with his participation in the PAN label's Mono No Aware compilation in 2017 and with appearances in scenes connected to the Nordic underground and Berlin, notably around Varg and Berlin Atonal. In 2019, he released the album Rogue Intruder, Soul Enhancer on his Bloom label, an extension of the aesthetics he had also carried through W-I, a structure now halted. His work navigates between abstraction and rhythmic efficiency, with a marked taste for syncopations, diffuse atmospheres, and a form of deconstructed pop. After a period of relative discretion, Oli XL returned with Lick The Lens Part 1, published in 2023, a project that features notably Ecco2k, James K, Ouri, and Chanel Beads, and confirms Oli XL's evolution toward a more vocal writing, while preserving his oblique constructions and his attention to sonic detail.
