Shkoon
Born from the meeting of Syrian singer‑pianist Ameen Khayer and German producer Thorben Diekmann, Shkoon developed in Germany from the mid‑2010s as a dialogue between Arab heritage and European electronic music. The German‑Syrian duo blends Arabic lyrics, motifs drawn from Syrian folk music and structures borrowed from downtempo, deep house, dub and hip‑hop, in a songwriting approach that gives significant space to oriental melodies, percussion and onstage improvisation. Shkoon works both the live format and studio releases, with the album Rima issued in 2019 and Masrahiya in 2021. Through concerts on electronic and alternative stages across Europe, Shkoon has established a formula in which voice, piano and rhythmic textures build a sound that is at once danceable and introspective, without separating club music, Arabic song and the traditional repertoire.
