Yölintu

Formed in Pori, Finland, Yölintu has been evolving since 1992 in the iskelmä register and Finnish dance music, with a Finnish-language repertoire that blends folk song, melodic pop and dance-floor accents. The group was built around singer Simo Silmu, also an accordionist, and has undergone several lineup changes over the years, while keeping a regular presence on Finland's concert and dance hall circuit. After their beginnings with Yölintu laskeutuu in 1993 and then Pieni lintunen in 1994, Yölintu broadened its audience in the late 1990s with Kaikki kohdallaan in 1997 and Tositarkoituksella in 1998, albums that established permanently its direct writing and refrains deeply rooted in Finnish popular tradition. The discography continues with Pienen pojan haaveet in 2000, Sitä saa mitä tilaa in 2001, Tää on rankkaa in 2002, Mennyttä miestä in 2005, Haavoittumaton in 2007, Nyt ja aina in 2009, the cover album Iso lemmen pala – Baddingin jalanjäljissä… in 2011, Minne maailma kuljettaa in 2012 and Maailma on kauneimmillaan in 2018. Today, Yölintu functions as a touring band focused on continuing this dancey, sentimental and melodic style that is characteristic of a significant part of contemporary Finnish song.
