Whispered

Whispered formed in Riihimäki, Finland, in 2001 around Jouni Valjakka, initially under the name Zealot, before adopting their current name in 2004. They developed a fast-tempo melodic death metal characterized by heavily harmonized guitars and rough vocal lines, with an aesthetic drawn from Japanese folklore, samurai narratives and imagery of feudal Japan. After several demos, including Bloodthroned (2004), Blindfold (2006) and Wrath of Heaven (2007), Whispered released their debut album Thousand Swords in 2010, followed by Shogunate Macabre in 2014 and Metsutan - Songs of the Void in 2016. Across these releases the band honed a balance between Nordic death-metal melodies, folk touches and arrangements inspired by traditional Japanese music, while keeping a direct, dense metal foundation. Whispered’s trajectory has also been part of the European metal circuit, touring and appearing alongside acts such as Wintersun and Black Therapy. Today Whispered remains centered on the core of Jouni Valjakka, Mikko Mattila and Kai Palo.
