Vanessa Williams
Born in Tarrytown, New York, and raised in Westchester County in an environment shaped by her parents' musical teaching, Vanessa Williams develops very early a practice of singing, dancing and several instruments before emerging in the public space in the early 1980s. Her musical career opens with The Right Stuff in 1988, where R&B, pop and soul intersect, then it takes shape with The Comfort Zone in 1991 and The Sweetest Days in 1994, two albums that establish a flexible vocal writing, attentive to ballads, to contemporary groove and to arrangements that also borrow from jazz and adult contemporary. Vanessa Williams then expands her repertoire with Star Bright in 1996 and Silver & Gold in 2004, then with Next in 1997, Everlasting Love in 2005, The Real Thing in 2009 and Survivor in 2024. In parallel with her discography, Vanessa Williams pursues a durable trajectory between music, Broadway, television and cinema, with roles in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Into the Woods, Sondheim on Sondheim or more recently The Devil Wears Prada in London. This dual stage and musical presence fuels a style that combines pop singing, melodic R&B, standards and Broadway influences, in an approach where the precision of interpretation remains central.
