Umami

Behind Umami are Robert and Sam, two musicians from different backgrounds — one coming from electronic production and composition, the other from guitar, singing and songwriting in rock and jazz bands. The duo positions Umami as a meeting point between melodic house, organic techno, downtempo and electronic pop, with a writing focus on textures, deep percussion and a regular place for the voice. After several phases of research and experimentation, Umami opened a new chapter with the album In Exchange For Everything, released in 2019 on trueColors, which notably features Terra Mount in collaboration with Monolink. That same year, the EP Das Horn, issued on Bar 25 Music, further refined their direction with a more tribal sound, enveloping synth lines and a format conceived for both the club and attentive listening. In 2020 Umami continued this trajectory with the EP Soltornet on Human By Default, Bedouin’s label. Through these releases Umami develops narrative electronic music that is both contemplative and rhythmic, situated between live performance, club culture and more introspective listening formats.
