The Wave Pictures

Formed in Wymeswold, Leicestershire, the English trio The Wave Pictures brings together guitarist and singer David Tattersall, bassist Franic Rozycki and drummer Jonny Helm around an indie rock sound that is both lo-fi and highly melodic. Initially active in the late 1990s within a cassette and home-recording scene, the band later settled in London and became part of the British indie network, undertaking club tours and collaborating with various musicians from the folk and alternative spheres. Signed, among others, to Moshi Moshi Records, they have released an extensive discography featuring albums such as Instant Coffee Baby (2008), If You Leave It Alone (2009), Beer in the Breakers (2011), Long Black Cars (2012), City Forgiveness (2013), Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon (2015, in collaboration with Billy Childish), Bamboo Diner in the Rain (2016), Brushes with Happiness (2018), Look Inside Your Heart (2018) and When The Purple Emperor Spreads His Wings (2022). The Wave Pictures’ style blends prominent electric guitars, simple rhythms, touches of blues and folk, and vocals often delivered in a talk-sung phrasing focused on detailed, everyday lyrics. Regulars in small venues across the UK and Europe, the group develops a tight trio dynamic on stage, based on light improvisation and considerable flexibility in arrangements.
