The Outside Agency

Formed by Noël Wessels (DJ Hidden) and Frank Nitzinsky (Eye‑D), The Outside Agency established itself in the mid‑1990s as a key project in dark, abrasive and experimental hardcore techno. Rooted in the Netherlands’ gabber and industrial scenes, the duo are known for combining broken rhythms, variable tempos and richly crafted atmospheres at the intersection of hardcore, drum and bass, breakcore and what would later be called crossbreed. The Outside Agency first appeared on specialist hardcore labels before creating their own framework with Genosha Recordings and later Genosha One Seven Five, which became the base for numerous releases and a coherent aesthetic centered on a dense, rough sound. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s they released multiple maxis and EPs while collecting their longer‑form productions on albums such as Scenocide 101 and The Dogs Are Listening, which document the evolution of their studio work. Both producers pursue solo activities in parallel, but reserve their most hybrid compositions for the joint project, often built around industrial textures, non‑linear structures and a marked use of silence and contrast in the mix. Active on many hardcore and drum and bass stages across Europe and beyond, The Outside Agency is part of a network of collaborations and events where hardcore, DnB and extreme electronic music producers intersect, while maintaining a clearly recognisable identity within these various communities.
