The DJ Producer

Rooted in the British rave scene and based in Bristol, The DJ Producer — born Luke McMillan — has been developing a radical approach to hardcore techno since the early 1990s. Emerging from free parties and improvised warehouse raves, he early on refined a sound that crosses gabber, industrial hardcore, drum & bass and breakbeat influences, marked by high tempos and highly fragmented rhythms. His productions circulated first on specialized European hardcore labels before finding a lasting home on imprints such as Deathchant, where he released the album Do Not Resist The Beat in 2004. He went on to collaborate extensively within the hardcore and industrial scenes, notably with Hellfish and Dolphin, with whom he released the album Age Of Arrhythmia in 2013, confirming a taste for extended structures, gradual buildups and sudden ruptures. Regularly booked on major hardcore stages as well as at more underground events across Europe, The DJ Producer adapts on record and in his DJ sets an aesthetic centered on rhythmic density, the use of abrasive textures and a constant play between straight-ahead beats and syncopations inherited from British bass music.
