The Meteors

Formed in London in 1980 around the trio P. Paul Fenech, Nigel Lewis and Mark Robertson, The Meteors emerged from the British rockabilly scene but quickly moved away by blending rockabilly, punk rock, 1960s surf and garage, with lyrics steeped in horror and science fiction. The Meteors were among the first to use the term psychobilly to describe this harsher, faster and darker approach, which developed on the margins of the neo-rockabilly scene. After several early releases in the early 1980s, The Meteors issued In Heaven in 1981, then Wreckin' Crew in 1983 and Stampede! in 1984, three albums often cited in defining the band's sound. The lineup changed frequently over the decades, with P. Paul Fenech remaining the only original member and also pursuing other projects such as The Legendary Raw Deal and The Murder Brothers. Between studio albums, live recordings and singles, The Meteors continue to play the psychobilly, punk and rockabilly circuits, with a discography that also includes Psycho Down! (2001), These Evil Things (2004), The Power of 3 (2016) and 40 Days a Rotting (2024).
