The Guess Who
Formed in Winnipeg, Canada, The Guess Who traces its roots to the local rock scene of the early 1960s, initially under the name Chad Allan and the Reflections before definitively adopting the moniker The Guess Who in 1965. The band gravitated toward rock with pop and blues inflections, influenced by British rock and North American rhythm and blues, and later incorporated psychedelic and hard rock elements at the end of the 1960s. The group’s best-known era coalesced around Burton Cummings on vocals and keyboards, Randy Bachman on guitar, Jim Kale on bass, and Garry Peterson on drums, marked by a run of North American tours and a regular presence on major rock stages. Albums such as "Warkfield Soul" (1969), "Canned Wheat" (1969), "American Woman" (1970), and "Share the Land" (1970) established a repertoire blending rock ballads, heavier cuts, and songs with a social dimension. After multiple lineup changes and breakups, The Guess Who underwent various reconfigurations from the late 1970s onward, alternating occasional reunions of its emblematic members with versions of the band centered around Garry Peterson, carrying forward a catalog defined by melodic guitars, prominent vocal harmonies, and direct songwriting.
