Bellamy Brothers
The country duo formed by brothers David and Howard Bellamy, the Bellamy Brothers hail from Darby, Florida, and in the 1970s split their time between the local country scene and studios in Nashville and Los Angeles. Before the duo was officially established, David Bellamy made his mark as a songwriter with 'Spiders & Snakes' for Jim Stafford in 1973, which opened the way for the Bellamy Brothers' first recordings. The single 'Let Your Love Flow' (1976), propelled by a blend of soft rock, country and melodic pop, brought the Bellamy Brothers into a more radio-friendly realm and was followed by albums such as 'Let Your Love Flow' (1976) and 'Plain & Fancy' (1977). By the end of the decade the duo clearly steered their work toward country, with songs like 'If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me' (1979) and the album 'The Two and Only' the same year, followed by 'Sons of the Sun' in 1980—establishing a style built on vocal harmonies, moderate tempos and lyrics alternating between romance, humor and depictions of everyday rural American life. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s the Bellamy Brothers toured extensively, performed regularly on the North American country circuit and developed a following in Europe, while continuing to record studio albums and compilations that kept their repertoire between traditional country, country rock and accessible ballads.
