Sumo Cyco

Formed in 2011 in Hamilton, Ontario, Sumo Cyco built itself around singer Skye Sweetnam, also active under the name Sever, with a band approach that mixes metal, hard rock, punk rock and alternative rock. Sumo Cyco develops an edgy, shifting sound where heavy riffs, melodic choruses, fast rhythms and harsher accents coexist without settling into a single register. The band began with a series of self-produced singles and videos before releasing Lost in Cyco City in 2014, Opus Mar in 2017 and Initiation in 2021, first independently and later on Napalm Records. Over the years Sumo Cyco has shared stages with bands such as Hollywood Undead, Coal Chamber, Filter, The Offspring, Jinjer and The Browning, and played festivals like Download in 2019. Along the way they have also undertaken occasional collaborations, notably with Benji Webbe of Skindred on the track "Move Mountains", while maintaining an identity defined by the intersection of punk energy, modern metal and a strong sense of visual staging.
