Silkie
Born in Hammersmith in West London, Solomon Rose developed early a culture shaped by pirate radio, UK garage and grime before adopting the name Silkie in the early 2000s. Active since 2002 as a producer and DJ, he started with grime productions and then moved toward a dubstep strongly marked by garage swing, deep bass and a melodic sensibility warmer than direct. Silkie founded Antisocial in 2004, released his tracks on Rinse FM and aligned with the London scene that then orbited around FWD>> and the rise of dubstep. His trajectory became clearer with Deep Medi, the label on which several important releases appeared, including City Limits Volume 1 in 2009, City Limits Volume 2 in 2011 and Panorama (2021), while Fractals came out in 2015. In his tracks, Silkie blends broken-pulse rhythms, luminous textures, soul references, futuristic accents and the heritage of the soundsystem, with an approach that moves between dubstep, UK garage and British bass music. Parallel to his EPs and singles, he relaunched his label activities with Bedroom Rat Records from 2023, also releasing music under his legal name, Solomon Rose.
