Stranded Horse

Behind Stranded Horse stands Yann Tambour, a French musician who first emerged with the project Encre before, in 2005, opening a more acoustic path, initially under the name Thee, Stranded Horse and then simply Stranded Horse from 2010. Based in a register between folk, alternative song and West African string music, he develops a pared-down writing where the guitar dialogues with the kora, an instrument that has become central to his work. This orientation takes shape on his first 45 rpm single in 2005, then on the album Churning Strides in 2007, released by Talitres. Stranded Horse subsequently deepens this exploration in a collaboration with Ballaké Sissoko, published in 2008, before Humbling Tides in 2011, Transmission in 2013, Luxe in 2016 and Grand Rodeo in 2021. Stranded Horse's music thus advances through discreet crossovers between Anglo-Saxon folk, repetitive motifs, hushed singing and textures inspired by the kora, with a format often sober that favors the circulation of melodies and rhythms. Present on stages linked to independent music scenes, Stranded Horse fits into a continuous path, distant from stylistic effects, where each record prolongs this work of balance between song, acoustic and instrumental dialogue.
