Sonja Moonear

Emerging from Geneva’s electronic scene, Sonja Moonear has built since the 1990s a career as a DJ and producer rooted in the contact zone between minimal house, microhouse and stripped-down techno. The Swiss artist first made her name in Geneva’s clubs before extending her presence to European and then international stages, delivering sets that favor duration, discreet transitions and exacting work on groove, tension and textural variation. Her recorded output circulates mainly in EP format, with releases documented on labels such as Perlon, Karat and Ruta5 — the latter also linked to her editorial activity. Across the 2000s and 2010s Moonear became part of a network of clubs and festivals associated with minimal aesthetics, while avoiding a strict, dogmatic reading of the genre: her selections combine supple bass, dry rhythms, repetitive motifs and more organic details, in an approach that keeps a constant connection to dancefloor culture.
