Sarah Blasko
Born in Sydney, Australia, Sarah Blasko developed her songwriting on the local independent scene before gaining notice with the self‑produced EP "Prelusive" in 2002 and the album "The Overture & The Underscore" in 2004. Straddling indie pop, folk and touches of chamber pop, her music blends a hushed voice, melancholic melodies and arrangements centered on piano, strings and subtle electronic elements. With "What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have" (2006) and "As Day Follows Night" (2009), recorded with Swedish musician Björn Yttling, Blasko refined a style in which the atmospheric ballad plays a prominent role. The album "I Awake" (2012) gives considerable space to orchestration, notably through work with a symphony orchestra, while "Eternal Return" (2015) and "Depth of Field" (2018) explore a pop sound of synthetic textures and slow tempos. Alongside her solo records, Sarah Blasko is part of the trio Seeker Lover Keeper with Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann and also composes music for film and theatre, extending the introspective, cinematic aesthetic that runs through her work.
