Prince Waly

Born in Montreuil in Seine-Saint-Denis, Prince Waly, real name Moussa Magassa, belongs to a French rap scene nourished by the heritage of the 1990s and 2000s, with dense writing, soul and funk references, and a marked taste for productions that are both classic and contemporary. He starts in the duo Big Budha Cheez with Fiasko Proximo, in the wake of the Exepoq collective, before making a name for himself as a solo artist over the 2010s thanks to several appearances, notably around Myth Syzer and formats like Grünt. His first solo EP, Junior, was released in 2016, followed by BO Y Z in 2019, which sketches a universe between neighborhood rap, American cinema and smoother melodies. After a forced interruption due to serious health problems, Prince Waly resumes activity and releases the album Moussa in 2022, then the EP BO Y Z Vol. 2 in 2023. Throughout his career, Prince Waly has also multiplied collaborations with artists from different francophone scenes, among them Alpha Wann, Jazzy Bazz, Luidji, Makala or Enchantée Julia. Between a Montreuil grounding, a sense of storytelling and attention to the texture of the tracks, Prince Waly develops a discography where blunt rap coexists with more sung tracks and R&B influences.
