Paul Carrack
Born in Sheffield in 1951, Paul Carrack established himself during the 1970s and 1980s as a singer, songwriter and keyboardist at the intersection of pop rock and soul. After beginning in the progressive group Warm Dust, he came to prominence with Ace in the mid-1970s, his voice leaving a lasting mark on the song 'How Long'. Carrack then undertook a series of roles in major British bands: he toured with Roxy Music and joined Squeeze in the early 1980s, during which he sang 'Tempted' on the album East Side Story. In the mid-1980s he became one of the vocalists for Mike + The Mechanics, Mike Rutherford’s project, lending his voice to songs such as 'Silent Running', 'The Living Years' and 'Over My Shoulder', while simultaneously developing a solo discography dominated by melodic pop, blue-eyed soul and ballads, with albums like Suburban Voodoo (1982), One Good Reason (1987), Groove Approved (1989) and Blue Views (1995). His career includes numerous sessions and tours with, among others, Eric Clapton, Elton John and Ringo Starr, and Paul Carrack continues to perform under his own name, mainly in the UK and Europe, combining solo material with songs from his various bands.
