Axel Bauer
Born in Paris in 1961, Axel Bauer is a rock guitarist and singer working at the intersection of new wave and the French chanson. He first gained attention in 1983 with the single “Cargo” and its music video by Jean‑Baptiste Mondino, which placed him on the emerging French pop‑rock scene. He then toured extensively and refined a sound dominated by guitar, taut rhythms and French-language lyrics that blend urban imagery, introspection and social observation. His early studio albums, “Les nouveaux seigneurs” (1987) and “Sentinelles” (1990), established a repertoire oscillating between rock energy, more atmospheric moods and song formats. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s he engaged in numerous collaborations—most notably the duet “À ma place” with Zazie—and explored more melodic pop‑rock registers without abandoning his rock roots. The records “Bad Cowboy” (2006) and “Peaux de serpent” (2013) continued his search for a balance between electric sonorities and personal songwriting, while “Radio Londres” (2022) revisited his taste for darker atmospheres and upfront guitars. Based primarily on French stages, Axel Bauer alternates between full electric‑band concerts and more stripped‑down formats, pursuing a career marked by continuity in his work as a songwriter and musician.
