Orkidea

Under the name Orkidea, Tapio Hakanen has built a career from Helsinki that has been tied to the Finnish electronic scene since the late 1990s. A DJ and producer, Orkidea operates in a range that crosses melodic trance, progressive and ambient, with compositions driven by textures, slow builds and a marked taste for atmospheres that are as luminous as they are melancholic. Active as a DJ from his teens, he first made his mark in clubs and on the airwaves with his show Tiistain tanssi-ilta, broadcast on Radiomafia and then YleX until 2007, while also producing under the names DJ Orkidea and Orkidea. His discography includes Taika – Selected Works ’98–’03 (2003), A Place Called Happiness (2005), Metaverse (2008), 20 (2011), Unity (2011) and Harmonia (2015). Orkidea also released tracks such as "Unity" (1999), "Beautiful" (2006), "Revolution" with DSS (2007) and "Hale Bopp" (2012). Alongside clubs and festivals, he has worked in radio, television and sound design, and composed for the TV series Skene in 2004, which highlights an approach to electronic music that goes beyond the dancefloor alone.
