Omni
Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in the early 2010s, Omni develops a dry, precise post-punk, fed by angular guitars, nervous basslines and fractured rhythms that evoke as much the economy of means of punk as the elasticity of art punk and new wave. The band brings together Philip Frobos, Frankie Broyles and, today, Chris Yonker, after an initial stint with Doug Bleichner; its members have also played in Atlanta’s indie-scene outfits such as Carnivores, Balkans, Deerhunter or Greenscreen. Omni emerged with Deluxe in 2016 on Trouble in Mind, then quickly refined its formula on Multi-Task in 2017, where the writing becomes more taut, more concise and more melodic without losing its dryness. The group later joined Sub Pop and released Networker in 2019, a record that confirms a taste for oblique structures, restrained choruses and a very graphic approach to guitar playing. In 2024, Omni continues this trajectory with Souvenir. On stage as in the studio, Omni sits in a clear post-punk lineage, but treated with a contemporary sharpness, between vocal detachment, minimalist impulse and a sense of rhythmic detail.
