Punch Brothers
Formed in the United States in 2006 around mandolinist and singer Chris Thile, Punch Brothers are part of a progressive bluegrass movement that blends chamber-music arrangements, acoustic folk, country and touches of rock and classical music. The group originally took shape in another form for the album How to Grow a Woman from the Ground, released in 2006 under the name Chris Thile, before adopting the name Punch Brothers in 2007. Rooted in the American acoustic scene—notably Nashville and later Brooklyn—the quintet developed a repertoire where traditional bluegrass formats sit alongside more ambitious suites and collective vocal work. Punch Brothers released Punch in 2008, Antifogmatic in 2010, Who’s Feeling Young Now? in 2012, The Phosphorescent Blues in 2015, All Ashore in 2018 and Hell on Church Street in 2022. Over the years they have also worked with producers such as Jon Brion and T Bone Burnett and contributed to the soundtrack of Inside Llewyn Davis. The lineup today comprises Chris Thile, Noam Pikelny, Chris Eldridge, Paul Kowert and, since 2023, Brittany Haas, who joined after fiddler Gabe Witcher departed.
