Auren
On the French contemporary song scene, Auren is building a repertoire at the crossroads of pop, folk and a subtle hint of Americana. Her work is rooted in French-language songwriting that is very text-focused, carried by a soft voice and melodies that leave room for guitars, keyboards and often restrained arrangements. A turning point came with Numéro (2019), recorded in Arizona with Calexico — a collaboration that broadened her musical horizon and accentuated the pop-folk dimension of her songs without distancing her from the singer-songwriter tradition. Auren has also developed her stage presence, notably opening for Vanessa Paradis and later Feu! Chatterton, in settings that place her music between contemporary French pop and more introspective writing. From song to song, she blends attention to the intimate, observations of the present and a social perspective, with a direct, sometimes ironic writing style where doubt, momentum and a form of lucidity coexist.
