Paul Anka
Born in Ottawa in 1941 to a family of Syrian‑Lebanese origin, Paul Anka rose to prominence on the North American scene in the late 1950s with a string of pop and rock ’n’ roll ballads such as 'Diana' (1957), 'You Are My Destiny' (1958), 'Lonely Boy' (1959), and 'Put Your Head on My Shoulder' (1959). Having moved to the United States early on, Anka pursued a dual career as a singer and songwriter, composing for himself as well as for others — notably the English lyrics to 'My Way', adapted from the French song 'Comme d’habitude', which became a signature piece in Frank Sinatra’s repertoire in the late 1960s. His crooner‑leaning vocal style rests on polished arrangements that evolve from teen pop toward an international pop and adult contemporary aesthetic, while occasionally incorporating jazz and swing elements. A fixture on cabaret and casino stages, particularly in Las Vegas, Anka has recorded numerous albums throughout his career, among them 'Rock Swings' (2005), which recasts rock and pop titles in big‑band fashion, and 'Duets' (2013), focused on duo reinterpretations of his catalog. Still active on the concert circuit, Paul Anka continues to maintain a steady rapport with audiences through touring and recording.
