Mondo Marcio

Born in Milan in 1986, Gian Marco Marcello performs under the name Mondo Marcio, developing an Italian rap rooted in autobiographical writing, hardcore rap and an urban aesthetic that is often dark and, over the years, sometimes more melodic. Active since the early 2000s, Mondo Marcio first made his mark on Milan's underground hip‑hop scene, notably after his joint victory at Tecniche Perfette against Ensi, and with the early support of Bassi Maestro. After an initial demo and the album Mondo Marcio in 2004, he expanded his audience with Solo un uomo (2006) and Generazione X (2007), where his taut flow and direct lyrics blend personal stories, social tensions and a perspective on his generation. He later founded Mondo Records and maintained a steady output of albums, mixtapes and production work, with projects such as Animale in gabbia (2010), Cose dell’altro mondo (2012), Nella bocca della tigre (2014) — constructed from material linked to Mina’s repertoire — followed by La freschezza del Marcio (2016), Uomo! (2019), Magico (2022) and Credo (2025). Mondo Marcio has also collaborated with artists like Mina, Bassi Maestro and Arisa, while steering his rap towards more introspective forms that combine hip‑hop classicism, sung hooks and R&B touches.
