Bassi Maestro

Born in Milan in 1973, Davide Bassi began in the late 1980s a complete practice of hip-hop under the name Bassi Maestro, as rapper, DJ and producer, with a strong grounding in old-school aesthetics, boom bap and the Italian underground. Active very early on the local scene, he took part in turntablism competitions in the early 1990s, released the demos Furia Solista in 1992 and Bastian Contrario in 1993, then participated in structuring an independent network around Mixmen Production and the Sano Business collective. His solo discography established itself over time with Contro gli estimatori in 1996, Foto di gruppo in 1998, Classico in 2000, Rapper italiano in 2001 and Background in 2002, before a series of albums that extended a precise, dense rap tied to the genre's classical codes, from Classe ’73 in 2003 to Hate in 2005, V.E.L.M. (Vivi e lascia morire) in 2006, Tutti a casa in 2011, Stanno tutti bene in 2012, Guarda in cielo in 2013 and Mia maestà in 2017. Bassi Maestro also worked with DJ Shocca, Ghemon, Mondo Marcio or Babaman, while maintaining regular production activity for other artists. From 2019, he opens another facet of his work with the alias North of Loreto, more oriented toward crossovers between electronic, funk and soul, notably on the North of Loreto album published in the same year.
