Michael Francis Seander, from Rhode Island, first played college baseball at Duke and then at Georgetown before turning to music while recovering from elbow surgery. Performing as Mike Stud and later as mike., he built a catalog that sits between melodic hip‑hop, pop‑rap and sung vocals, featuring smooth productions and often autobiographical writing. His first visibility came with the track “College Humor,” uploaded in 2010 while he was still a pitcher, followed by the mixtape A Toast to Tommy in 2011 — the title referencing his Tommy John surgery. Mike Stud then grew his career on the college circuit and through independent U.S. tours, releasing projects outside the major‑label system, including the Click collaboration with Huey Mack in 2012 and the albums Relief (2013), Closer (2014), These Days (2016) and 4TheHomies (2018). Over the years he moved away from the party/college persona of his early work toward a more introspective, more sung approach closer to alternative pop tinged with rap. After dropping the name Mike Stud, mike. continued that evolution with the highs. (2021), Why Not Us? (2022, with Skeez), Love, (2023) and the lows. (2024).
