Omar
Based in London and emerging from the British soul scene of the 1990s, Omar Lye-Fook has built a career centered on a blend of soul, R&B, jazz-funk and touches of reggae, placing him among the early proponents of neo-soul in the UK. After several self-released maxis, Omar gained attention in the early 1990s with the single “There’s Nothing Like This,” which led to a debut album of the same name in 1990, followed by “Music” in 1992 and “For Pleasure” in 1994 — records that emphasize warm arrangements, prominent bass lines and carefully crafted vocal harmonies. He went on to release “This Is Not a Love Song” in 1997 and “Best by Far” in 2000, while collaborating with American and British soul and hip‑hop artists, including a notable appearance by Stevie Wonder on the album “Sing (If You Want It)” in 2006. Continuing to mix mid‑tempo grooves, soul ballads and jazz influences, Omar released “The Man” in 2013 and “Love in Beats” in 2017, and remains active on club and festival stages across Europe, where his work as a singer‑songwriter and musician is presented in live‑band oriented shows. In 2012 Omar Lye‑Fook was appointed MBE for his services to music in the United Kingdom.
