Mick Harvey

Born in Rochester in the state of Victoria and trained in Melbourne, Mick Harvey has, since the late 1970s, followed a trajectory tied to Australian post‑punk, art rock and a more orchestrated songwriting approach informed by chanson and film music. Initially active with The Boys Next Door, later The Birthday Party, Harvey went on to play in Crime & the City Solution and co‑found Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in 1983, where he served for twenty‑five years in a central role as instrumentalist, arranger, co‑composer and producer. His work is marked by restrained structures, tense atmospheres and a particular attention to strings, textures and the balance between dark rock, ballad and narrative. In parallel, Harvey developed a solo discography beginning with Intoxicated Man (1995) and Pink Elephants (1997), two collections of English translations of Serge Gainsbourg, followed by One Man’s Treasure (2005), Sketches from the Book of the Dead (2011), Four (Acts of Love) (2013), Delirium Tremens (2016), Intoxicated Women (2017), Phantasmagoria in Blue with Amanda Acevedo (2023) and Five Ways to Say Goodbye (2024). He has also collaborated with Anita Lane, Rowland S. Howard and PJ Harvey, co‑producing several of their records, while regularly composing for film.
