Ásgeir
Born in 1992 in Laugarbakki in northwestern Iceland, Ásgeir has developed a songwriting style shaped by the Icelandic language and a pared-back melodic approach. He made his mark on the local scene with the 2012 album Dýrð í dauðaþögn, a record of folk and atmospheric pop whose lyrics were largely written by his father, the poet Einar Georg Einarsson. An English version, In the Silence, followed in 2013, featuring adaptations by John Grant among others, and helped broaden Ásgeir’s international profile. His work then evolved toward a more pronounced fusion of intimate folk, electronic pop, and ambient touches on Afterglow (2017), and later on the diptych Bury the Moon and its Icelandic counterpart Sátt, both released in 2020. With Time On My Hands (2022), Ásgeir continues along this path, where acoustic guitars, understated keyboards, and unhurried rhythms support a gentle voice and an introspective register, alternating songs in Icelandic and English. He performs regularly in Iceland and abroad, solo or with a band, and is part of a Nordic scene that weaves together chanson, folk, and contemporary electronic production.
