Marcia

Born in Lisbon in 1982, Márcia — full name Ana Márcia de Carvalho Santos — has developed within the Portuguese scene a songwriting voice that sits between pop, folk, rock and indie, carried by a restrained vocal delivery and melodic work often focused on the guitar. Trained in fine arts and later in singing at the Hot Clube de Portugal, she was also part of Real Combo Lisbonense before launching her solo path with the EP A Pele que Há em Mim in 2009. Her debut album Dá appeared in 2010 and was reissued in 2011, establishing the basis for an intimate and direct repertoire. She followed with Casulo in 2013, Quarto Crescente in 2015 — recorded between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro — and Vai e Vem in 2018, which features several duets, notably with António Zambujo, Samuel Úria and Salvador Sobral. In 2022 she released Picos e Vales, followed by Ana Márcia in 2025. Over the years Márcia has also collaborated with J.P. Simões, Criolo and Catarina Salinas, while writing for other Portuguese performers. For Márcia, the singer-songwriter tradition remains central, with a taste for measured arrangements, personal lyrics and a constant oscillation between stripped acoustic settings and orchestrated pop.
