Makthaverskan

Born in Gothenburg in 2008, Makthaverskan established themselves in the Swedish indie scene with a sound at the crossroads of indie rock, indie pop and post-punk. The quartet, built around Maja Milner, Hugo Randulv, Andreas “Palle” Wettmark and Irma Krook, initially performed under the name Kuratorn before releasing a self-titled debut, Makthaverskan, in 2009 on the Luxury label. Quickly noticed on Swedish stages, they played several festivals including Emmabodafestivalen, Arvikafestivalen and Storsjöyran, then took a break in the early 2010s and returned with Makthaverskan II in 2013. Their music blends taut guitars, melodic bass lines, forward drum patterns and a vocal delivery that retains strong emotional charge while staying rooted in pop songwriting. After Ill in 2017, Makthaverskan continued this trajectory with För allting in 2021, slightly broadening their palette while remaining true to a dark, nervous and immediate aesthetic. Often linked to Gothenburg’s tradition of melancholic pop, Makthaverskan also embrace the label “dödspop”, a term that aptly captures the balance between post-punk tension, cool romanticism and incisive hooks.
