Mac Lethal

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Mac Lethal, real name David McCleary Sheldon, has since the early 2000s developed a hip-hop rooted in the American indie scene, blending technical rap, humor, everyday storytelling, and productions marked by the Midwest underground. Mac Lethal emerged with the album Men Are from Mars, Pornstars Are from Earth in 2002, the year he also won the Scribble Jam competition, before touring with Sage Francis on the Fuck Clear Channel Tour in 2004. In 2006, Mac Lethal co-founded the Black Clover Records label, then released 11:11 in 2007 on Rhymesayers Entertainment, confirming dense writing and a fast flow, not limited to battle rap. His music mixes wordplay, introspection, self-deprecation, and very direct observations, in a hip-hop aesthetic that navigates between independent rap, spoken word, and more melodic refrains. After Irish Goodbye in 2011, Mac Lethal gains wider visibility thanks to several viral online videos, while pursuing an autonomous path. He also hosts the Black Clover Radio show in Kansas City and publishes in 2013 the book Texts from Bennett: A Novel. The rest of his discography includes Congratulations in 2016 and Winter Heartbreak II in 2021, with rap still centered on verbal virtuosity, performance energy, and a strongly personal imprint.
