Art Garfunkel
Born in Queens, New York, in 1941, Art Garfunkel first made his mark in the late 1950s with Paul Simon under the name Tom & Jerry, before forming the duo Simon & Garfunkel, active at the heart of the American folk-rock and pop scene in the 1960s. After the duo split, Garfunkel embarked on a solo career focused on melodic pop, soft rock and orchestrated songs, supported by his clear tenor voice and a marked taste for spare or symphonic arrangements. His solo discography begins with Angel Clare in 1973, followed by Breakaway (1975), Watermark (1977), Fate for Breakfast (1979) and Scissors Cut (1981). He also recorded with songwriters and performers from American pop and folk, while occasionally reuniting on stage with Paul Simon. In the 1990s and 2000s Garfunkel released Up ’Til Now (1993), Songs from a Parent to a Child (1997), Everything Waits to Be Noticed (2002) and Some Enchanted Evening (2007), where his repertoire opened more to standards and a more intimate style of interpretation.
