Melissa Auf Der Maur
Based in Montreal, Quebec, bassist and singer Melissa Auf der Maur made her mark on North American alternative rock in the mid-1990s when she joined the band Hole. She toured extensively in support of the album “Live Through This” and took part in the recording of “Celebrity Skin” in 1998. In 1999 she joined The Smashing Pumpkins for the “Machina/The Machines of God” period, asserting a massive, melodic bass style at the crossroads of grunge, hard rock and more atmospheric rock. After these notable experiences, Melissa Auf der Maur embarked on a solo path in which she writes, sings and directs her own projects, releasing her self-titled debut “Auf der Maur” in 2004 and “Out of Our Minds” in 2010, conceived as a unified narrative blending dark rock, stoner influences and cinematic atmospheres. Alongside her anglophone musical work, she developed visual and conceptual projects around her records and became active in Montreal’s cultural scene, engaging in numerous collaborations and transdisciplinary projects beyond the album format.
