Linda May Han Oh

Born in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, into a family of Chinese origin, Linda May Han Oh grew up in Western Australia and moved to New York in 2008 after studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the Manhattan School of Music. A double bassist, electric bassist and composer, Linda Oh works within contemporary jazz, developing a language that blends a strong sense of melodic line, tight rhythmic interplay and small-ensemble writing with moments that approach chamber music. After her debut album Entry (2009), she further defined her voice with Initial Here (2012) and Sun Pictures (2013), and expanded it on Walk Against Wind (2017), Aventurine (2019), The Glass Hours (2023) and Strange Heavens (2025). Her career has taken her to international jazz stages and into varied settings, from quartet to large ensemble. Linda May Han Oh has also performed and recorded with artists such as Dave Douglas, Joe Lovano, Terri Lyne Carrington, Vijay Iyer, Pat Metheny and Fabian Almazan, while leading her own projects. Based in the United States, she also teaches at the Berklee College of Music.
