Emma Rawicz
Based in London, British saxophonist and composer Emma Rawicz hails from North Devon in southwest England. Active on the jazz scene since the early 2020s, she began performing in London clubs, where she developed a repertoire largely made up of original compositions. Her sound sits between contemporary jazz, post‑bop heritage and more electric influences, featuring often irregular rhythms, angular melodic lines and a marked attention to harmonic colour, while retaining an accessible melodic sensibility. Leading various ensembles—from small groups to larger formations—Rawicz plays with musicians from the young British jazz scene and performs mainly across the UK. The release of her debut album "Incantation" in 2022 established the foundations of her writing and group sound; in 2023 she extended this with "Chroma", further exploring the interplay between improvisation, collective arrangements and sectional textures. Between incisive sax playing and precise formal construction, Emma Rawicz situates her music within a contemporary jazz that embraces exchanges between tradition and modern influences.
