LAKSHMI
Under the name LAKSHMI, Lakshmi Swami Persaud has been developing since the mid‑2010s a Dutch electronic pop with dark contours, which she herself describes as “pop noir.” Born in 1993 in Wijchen, the Netherlands, and raised in a Dutch‑Surinamese family, LAKSHMI blends pop songwriting, synthetic textures and a pronounced use of violin in tracks that are both melodic and tense. Trained at the Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht, she gained attention by reaching the final of the Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2014 and later by appearing on the show De Beste Singer‑Songwriter van Nederland. Her discography centers first on the EPs Come Sin with Me (2016) and Sinister (2016), before her eponymous debut album Lakshmi (2017), followed by Siren (2018) and the compilation First EP’s Deluxe the same year. LAKSHMI is part of the Dutch alternative pop scene, moving between live formats, television and cross‑disciplinary projects, with a regular on‑screen presence until she became a musician in the house band of the programme Eus’ Boekenclub.
