La Delio Valdez

Founded in Buenos Aires in 2009, La Delio Valdez established itself as a cooperative orchestra dedicated to large-format cumbia, with a brass section, percussion, multiple voices and a collective logic that remains central to its operation. La Delio Valdez draws primarily on the tradition of Colombian cumbia, but its repertoire also incorporates elements of salsa, Latin American tropical music and popular song, with arrangements conceived as much for dancing as for listening. Initially rooted in Argentina’s independent circuit, La Delio Valdez gradually expanded its presence on stages and at festivals in Latin America and Europe, while maintaining an identity tied to self-management and collective work. Over the years the orchestra has refined a more personal compositional voice without breaking with the genre’s classic forms: marked rhythms, dialogues between winds and choirs, alternation between male and female voices, and a taste for dense yet legible textures. Today La Delio Valdez occupies a distinctive place in Argentina’s contemporary tropical scene through this way of linking orchestral heritage and collective energy.
