Keimzeit

Formed in the late 1970s in East Germany around singer‑songwriter Norbert Leisegang, Keimzeit began as part of the GDR rock scene before opening up to a wider audience in Germany after reunification. The lineup evolved over time while remaining centered on Leisegang. The band developed a melodic, German‑language rock that blends pop, touches of folk and ska influences, supported by narrative lyrics rooted in everyday life. Keimzeit gained notice in the early 1990s with the album Irrenhaus (1990), then continued in studio and on stage, building its path through clubs, venues and festivals across German‑speaking countries. The song Kling Klang, released in the early 1990s, was an important milestone for the visibility of Keimzeit’s repertoire. Alongside the electric band, the Keimzeit Akustik Quintett project explores a more intimate, acoustic side of the compositions, with spare arrangements that extend the work of the rock lineup while underscoring the importance of the lyrics.
