Les Stentors

Formed in France in the early 2010s, Les Stentors brings together singers from the opera world around a repertoire that sits between classical music and French chanson. The project relies on tenor and baritone voices to revisit heritage songs, popular tunes and, depending on the period, cinema or Christmas themes, in expansive yet accessible vocal arrangements. Les Stentors first came to prominence in 2012 with the album Voyage en France, before continuing with Une Histoire de France in 2013 and Rendez-Vous Au Cinéma in 2014, which moved their repertoire towards songs associated with the big screen. Over the years, the lineup evolves, notably with Mathieu Sempéré, Vianney Guyonnet, Mowgli Laps, Sébastien Lemoine, then Jean-Philippe Catusse and Christian Helmer depending on the period. Les Stentors then develop a more thematic line with Ma Patrie in 2017, dedicated to songs tied to French history and imagination, followed by Les Stentors Chantent Noël in the same year, Un Tour en France in 2018 and 10 ans d’amour in 2022. Their journey sits between the lyric stage, revival concerts and tours in France, with an aesthetic based on choral power, clear diction, and the crossing between operatic singing and popular song.
