K-Reen

Born in Guyana and raised in Créteil, K-Reen established herself from the early 1990s in a space between French R&B, hip-hop, soul, zouk and dancehall, with a writing centered on the voice and melodies. First spotted in the wake of the Roots Neg collective, she appears very early on the compilation Sensitive, New Jack Swing Vol. 1 in 1994, then multiplies collaborations with the French rap and R&B scene, from Fabe to Oxmo Puccino, including Def Bond, Jalane, China Moses or MC Solaar, for whom she also provides backing vocals. The track Tu me plais with Def Bond, associated with the Taxi soundtrack in 1998, expands her visibility at the moment her first album K-Reen is released the same year. Follow Dimension in 2001, where her R&B opens more to urban textures and to funk and Caribbean influences, then Old School Elixir in 2006, Himalaya in 2012, Racines K’Raïb in 2015 and Fini les foutaises in 2022. Throughout this journey, K-Reen also develops activity as author, composer, backing singer and producer for other artists, while launching her label Astrad Music in the mid-2000s. K-Reen thus occupies a singular place in the history of Francophone R&B, at the crossroads of rap, soul and Afro-Caribbean scenes.
