Jack Parow

Born Zander Tyler in Bellville, in the Cape Town metropolitan area of South Africa, Jack Parow emerged in the late 2000s with Afrikaans rap that blends crude humor, social observation, pop culture and a knack for blunt phrasing. He first gained attention in 2009 with the track «Cooler as Ekke», then developed a style that is at once direct and ironic, driven by productions sitting between hip-hop, electro-rap and bass-heavy party music, in an aesthetic closely tied to South African cultural codes. His debut album, Jack Parow, was released in 2010, followed by Eksie Ou in 2011, Nag Van Die Lang Pette in 2014 and From Parow with Love in 2016. Over the course of his career, Jack Parow has moved between the hip-hop scene, the Afrikaans alternative circuit and festival stages, in South Africa as well as in Europe, while collaborating with other artists in that sphere, notably Die Heuwels Fantasties. His music fits into a contemporary scene where rap intersects with rock, pop and electronic music, anchored locally by language, accent and everyday references.
