Kas Product
Formed in Nancy in the early 1980s, Kas Product brought together singer‑guitarist Mona Soyoc, of Franco‑American origin, and electronic musician Spatsz, born Daniel Favre. Part of the French cold wave and new wave movements, the duo developed a minimal, taut sound driven by fast drum machines, repetitive synthetic lines and a vocal style that is both expressionist and melodic, informed by jazz and post‑punk. Kas Product made its mark on the alternative scene with the album “Try Out” in 1982, followed by “By Pass” in 1983, which established a style blending punk energy, dark atmospheres and an experimental approach to songcraft. After a period of touring and studio work, the duo released “Ego Eye” in 1987, extending their explorations between electronic pop and harsher, more industrial textures. Alternating between activity and retreat, Kas Product resurfaced intermittently from the 2000s around reissues and concerts, until Spatsz’s death in 2019, leaving a legacy shaped by the French and European independent scenes and a distinctive approach to voice and synthetic textures.
